July 24, 2013

The electricity on the North side of Lynchburg went out last night which happens several times a year.  It wasn't on the next morning and there was no news about when it would be back on, so we took off for out first visit to Virginia Beach.
It was a long drive but we had nothing else to do and the prospect of another entire day and night without air conditioning was out of the question.  So off we went.
Arriving rather hot and exhausted, we drove along Ocean Drive and noticed there was a busy (noisy) section and a less busy (quieter) section,
saw the Hilton, drove in, and got a room for the night at an outrageous price.  The room was great (after I called down for an engineer to come and fix the air conditioner) with a balcony overlooking the Neptune statue and Orchestra/Band Shell.
I needed to rest and cool down so I stayed in the room while Stephen went out to the beach - nothing, absolutely nothing stops Stephen from doing whatever he wants to do, but the beach was being closed due to possible thunder storms.  I got refreshed, sort of, and we strolled
outside to a restaurant serving sea food.  It was
packed, so we ate at the bar and had a few cocktails.  We strolled back, went back to the room and sat on the balcony for awhile to take some pictures and smell the ocean air.
The next day we headed home and the house was nice and cool.  The food in the refrigerator was just fine, so we figured (and later confirmed) the electricity came back on soon after we left!  So we got to see Virginia Beach and we will be going back next year for a longer vacation.

By the way, we never did get those thunderstorms so the beach was reopened.
