Last year Stephen said he wanted tulips. We decided to use the three-sided fenced in area along the rear steps because the deer shouldn't come that close to the house - or so we hoped.
Stephen picked 50 bulbs of bright red tulips, and when they arrived he planted them. This is sort of his first garden.
By mid-April they all opened and we had a glorious shock of red in his garden.
They lasted for weeks, and the deer, in spite of a bad winter, never touched them.
We got 4 free pinkish-white snowball tulips and they bloomed nicely as well:
