November 21-22, 2013

Stephen read an announcement that the New York Historical Society Museum & Library was commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armory Show.   Needless to say, we couldn't miss this opportunity, so we made plans to take the train from Lynchburg to NYC.

Extraordinary effort was exerted to gather as many of the original works exhibited in 1913, and the result was magnificent.  We saw quite a few pieces which are in private collections!

Unfortunately, picture taking was not allowed within the museum.  The Grande Dame of the show was Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase, shown here greeting Walter Klingler as he arrives for the show wearing a shirt which shows her in all her naked glory.

Duchamp's Nude patiently poses with Walter as she attempts to re-ascend the staircase she just descended!!
