Sunday January 12, 2014

Almost every year our friend Linda Dougherty from St. Louis sends us some potted bulbs.  This year she sent us paperwhites (Narcissus papyraceus) which are beginning to grow nicely.

Linda used to send us amaryllis bulbs and I have good success getting them to bloom again the following winter.  For a change she sent these paperwhites.

Since Linda has gotten me addicted to winter flowers, I purchased a picotee amaryllis bulb which should produce white flowers with a pencil thin edge of red.  I started forcing the bulb in the middle of December and it is coming up just fine - so far!
