Dan Klingler, American Gothic, Lynchburg

Farmer Dan, posing as American Gothic, wanted to get his hands dirty and work in one of the gardens.  We decided to create a new periwinkle patch along the driveway where a bare spot appeared within the creeping juniper after being trampled every night by the deer.

So Dan and Stephen went down the back hill which is covered with periwinkle.  Dan loaded the wheelbarrow with a few clumps of plants along with some good soil. dragged it all back up to the site and began to work on it.  He pulled the weeds, spread out the new soil and planted the periwinkle clumps.
It may not look like much yet, but the periwinkle will grow and spread quickly, and by next spring it will have nice flowers for a few weeks.

Awhile after Dan left, Walter made a sign commemorating Dan's hard work.
