Sunday, November 12, 2017 Magnolia Plantation & Gardens

We descended upon Magnolia Plantation & Gardens like two Yankees ready to take on the Rebels. Yeah, right!

Magnolia Plantation is privately run and has a more rustic feel about it.
The house is nothing to write home about and the gardens are rather wild. We sort of liked the fact they didn't take themselves too seriously.

Like all good plantations, Magnolia does have a wonderful tree covered entrance from the road, even though the main entrance faces the river on the opposite side.
Azalea bushes are everywhere and must be magnificent in the
spring when in bloom.

The gardens are not formal and that seems to suit the house well.
Stephen really liked the trees - old, long limbed, covered with hanging moss.

The original plantation house was burned down during the Civil War and the family barged a colonial summer house down the Ashley River and set up the current plantation.
I enjoyed sitting on the veranda, in a wicker chair and Stephen had no strong objection to that either!
